Le Petit Musée de Carro – Journées Européennes du Patrimoine 2018
15th and 16th September 2018
For these European Heritage Days, the small town of Carro (next to Martigues – South of France) has chosen to honor the occasion with a photographic exhibition « Nouvelle vague », in reference of the French cinematographic movement. The exhibition offers us a new perspective of the southern coastline through the use of aerial photography. Countering a traditional vision of an endless horizon above the sea, the exhibition provides a frontal vision, without perspective. Shapes and colors stand out, side-stepping our expectations in a move towards the abstract, thereby transforming an everyday scene Godard sought to do in his cinema.
Beyond the aesthetic beauty of this abstract cartography, these photographs draw on our use of space, our integration with nature and our own interactions. This new point of view highlights the presence of humankind and its hand in shaping the coastline. A beautiful exhibition to see during these « European Heritage Days”.
